Terrifying Footage Captures Delta Airlines Plane Flipping Upside-Down During Crash Landing In Toronto

Shocking footage has emerged showing the terrifying moment when a Delta Airlines flight flipped upside-down during a crash landing in Toronto on Monday (February 17).

Flight 4819, which departed from Minneapolis, Minnesota, attempted to land at Toronto Pearson International Airport but ended up skidding off the runway and overturning.

The plane was carrying 80 people in total—76 passengers and four crew members—all of whom managed to evacuate safely, according to officials.

However, at least 18 individuals sustained injuries and were transported to nearby hospitals for treatment.

Among them, three are reported to be in critical condition, including a child, a woman in her 40s, and a man in his 60s, according to Ornge, a medical transport service cited by The Independent.

The identities of those injured have not yet been publicly disclosed.

Footage of the plane’s rough landing has been circulating online after it was shared by the Twitter user ‘airmainengineer’.

The video shows the aircraft making contact with the runway before its rear section suddenly erupts into flames, sending thick smoke into the air.

As the plane continues to slide down the runway, a dark plume of smoke trails behind it, painting a harrowing picture of the near-disaster.

Many who watched the footage expressed disbelief that all passengers and crew survived such a dramatic crash.

One shocked viewer wrote: “Goodness….this must be one of the craziest things seen” while another added: “That is insane! So glad everyone survived!”

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) later issued a statement, confirming their role in the ongoing investigation: “The NTSB is leading a team of U.S. investigators to assist the Transportation Safety Board of Canada with their investigation of today’s accident of a Delta Air Lines Bombardier CRJ900 at Toronto Pearson International Airport.”

The FAA further stated: “Per international protocols under the International Civil Aviation Organization’s Annex 13, any information about the investigation will be released by the Transportation Safety Board of Canada.”

Delta Airlines CEO Ed Bastian also responded to the incident, saying: “The hearts of the entire global Delta family are with those affected by today’s incident at Toronto-Pearson International Airport.”

He went on to acknowledge the efforts of those involved in the rescue operation, stating: “I want to express my thanks to the many Delta and Endeavor team members and the first responders on site.”

Meanwhile, a live recording from LiveATC.net captured the communication between air traffic controllers and the Delta flight crew moments before the crash. The controller gave instructions: “Endeavor Air 4819. Turn right heading 210. Descent to 3,000. Cleared ILS 23 approach.”

The pilot then responded: “Alright heading 210. Down to 3,000. Cleared through the ILS, 23. Endeavor 4819.”

Shortly after, air traffic control issued a warning about strong winds, noting speeds of 27 knots with gusts up to 33 knots. While the plane was cleared to land on Runway 23, the controller cautioned that “it may get a slight bump” and that another aircraft would be landing ahead of it.

Moments later, the crash occurred, with emergency teams quickly responding as reports confirmed the plane had flipped on the icy runway.
